WASHINGTON— The Trump administration is considering new background checks and other restrictions on Chinese students in the United States over growing espionage concerns, U.S. officials and congressional sources said.

In June, the U.S. State Department shortened the length of visas for Chinese graduate students studying aviation, robotics and advanced manufacturing to one year from five. U.S. officials said the goal was to curb the risk of spying and theft of intellectual property in areas vital to national security.… READ MORE...

November 12, 2018 Updated: November 13, 2018

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration is ramping up the pressure in its ongoing trade war with Beijing by adopting new strategies to curb China’s intellectual property (IP) theft.

A recent report by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, claims that Washington is gearing up to move beyond tariffs and “use export controls, indictments, and other tools” to take on China.

The U.S. government has recently taken “unprecedented actions” to defend the largest American memory-chip maker, Micron Technology. The Commerce and Justice departments cracked down on a Chinese state-owned company for stealing Micron’s trade secrets.… READ MORE...

Representative to European Union Consulting Body Condemns Beijing’s Long Arm Over European Theaters

November 2, 2018 Updated: November 2, 2018

A member of the European Union’s business consulting body condemned the Chinese regime’s recent attempts to influence European theater venues.

In recent months and years, popular theater venues throughout Europe have received letters or personal visits from Chinese diplomats demanding that they not host a particular traditional Chinese performance—otherwise relations with China would be at stake, the message would often be.
The Chinese regime’s target was Shen Yun, a performing arts company based in the United States and founded by Chinese artists in exile.

European media have routinely uncovered instances of Chinese consulates and their operatives around the world pressuring theaters not to lease their space to Shen Yun, or attempting to coerce Western government officials to not attend the performances or voice support for the company.… READ MORE...

I have been researching, writing and speaking on the killing of Falun Gong for their organs in China now for over ten years. In the effort to combat the killing of Falun Gong for their organs in China, I have been front and centre along with David Kilgour and Ethan Gutmann. None of us are Falun Gong practitioners. None of us have ever been Falun Gong practitioners. None of us have any relatives who are Falun Gong practitioners. None of us have Chinese ancestry. None of us have any personal or family ties to China.

In general, my own view is that a group which is victimized should assume leadership in the combat against its victimization.READ MORE...

Freedom House Report: “The Worst Instance of Religious Persecution”

In a recent report from Freedom House, the persecution of Falun Gong in China was highlighted and analyzed in detail. Twenty two pages of the 142-page document focused on this severe, large-scale, human rights violation.

“[The Communist Party initiated] the worst instance of religious persecution since the Cultural Revolution, with the clampdown against Falun Gong,” cited in the report remarks from André Laliberté, a leading scholar from Ottawa University on religion in China.

With a title of “The Battle for China’s Spirit,” this report was published by Freedom House on February 28, 2017. A press conference was held in the morning of that day, hosted by Carolyn Bartholomew, chair of the U.S.-ChinaREAD MORE...

Hong Kong Government Encouraged to Invite Premier Classical Chinese Dance Company

For the past decade, Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance and music company, has played to full theaters in over a hundred cities worldwide. Yet, the New York-based Shen Yun cannot perform in China, where the ancient art of classical Chinese dance originated.

The Chinese regime hasn’t allowed Shen Yun, a show that has dazzled and moved millions of theatergoers, to perform in the country because the show includes acts that portray the persecution of Falun Dafa. Practitioners of Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong, have been brutally persecuted in China for the past 17 years, on the orders of former Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin.… READ MORE...
